As Montreal take their current winning streak to seven games the New York Rangers suffer back-to-back losses, and in the process have been outscored 10-3 by the opposition. Beliveau (18) and Ferguson (12) gave the Habs a lead but Ratelle (30) tied up the game both times in the second period. Redmond (8) and a second from Beliveau (19) put Montreal over the top, New York only able to counter with a goal from Gilbert (28) as part of his three-point night, and Cournoyer (31) added an empty netter late on.
A goal in each period secured LA's third win in five games to move them up to third in the West, just two points back of the Flyers who have just one victory in five attempts. Irvine (19) scored on the powerplay in the first period and then, in the second frame, Labossierre's (21) first goal gave the Kings a 2-0 advantage. Rochefort (19) and Sutherland (24) assisted on each others' goals to tie the game in the third but Labossierre stole both points for his team with thirty-eight seconds left to play.
