Team USA looked the better side through at halftime despite the game tied at 1-1. Ghana were struggling to deal with the pace and trickery of their opponents with free kicks and crosses causing some drama. Findley hit the side netting when he pounced on a free kick that deflected off the wall, and Jozy Altidore got on the end of a cross to force Richard Kingson into a top class save.
Unsurprisingly it was the Americans who opened the scoring. Another free kick was floated neatly into the top corner by Landon Donovan for his second World Cup goal, but the lead only lasted four minutes Kwadwo Asamoah turned in a Ghanian corner.
The restart brought about a chance in mentality with Ghana very much on the front foot with Prince-Boateng's effort swerving wide of the post six minutes into the second half. The next attack gave Ghana the lead. It began with a mistake from Michael Bradley as his pass had very little behind it, ultimately allowing Asamoah provide a very clever chip for Ayew to head past the keeper.
After Gyan wasted his chance to add to the score, another huge mistake from Bradley gave Prince Tagoe the opportunity to dribble through the panicking defence and beat Howard at his near post. The misery as complete for the USA when Asamoah Gyan scored his third goal of the tournament, running onto a quick Prince-Boateng cross.

Switzerland welcomed back Reto Zeigler from his suspension for this final group game that only had bragging rights available for the two teams. After almost twenty minutes of very dull football the Swiss suddenly began their control of the match in the 19th minute. Blaise Nkufo got on to an Osman Chavez mistake and, after a neat one-two with Lichsteiner, the striker dispatched his shot neatly into the bottom corner.
The same player nearly doubled his team's advantage two minutes later with a spectacular bicycle kick that would have been a goal if was on target anywhere but straight at the goalie. The match returned to a lull until Gelson Fernandez was bundled to the ground to earn Switzerland a free kick. Tranquillo Barnetta stepped up to take it on, whipping it up into the corner for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Both teams looked like they just wanted it to be over for most of the second half with many passes going astray and thankfully for everyone watching the end did finally come without much else to cheer about.

His red card came after a scoreless first half despite South Africa pushing the attack. Mokoena shot wide and Tshabalala was robbed by a flying Hugo Lloris.
France became resistant with ten men but the dull period ended in the 57th minute on an interception by Kagiego Dikgacol. His clever ball to Gaxa streaking down the wing created some panic at the back for their opponents allowing Tshbalala to score his second of the tournament. Another lean period in the match that was only interrupted by substitutes and another Lloris save, this time on Mphela eventually ended on another South African goal. Dikgacol again getting himself involved, this time his chip across goal was headed down by Mphela for Aaron Mokoena to take his second chance.
France tried to press late in the match and were rewarded too late on a corner kick. Gallas flicked on the delivery at the near post and Yoann Gourcuff powered it past Moneeb Josephs who was installed in this match instead of Khune.

Victor Caceres earned the first booking by jumping into a tackle only seconds after the match kicked off, but Slovakia scored the first goal when Kopunek and Stoch showed good aerial prowess that split the defense for Erik Jendrisek to slot home. Paraguay had the chance to equalise before halftime when a hard, but this time fair tackle, started an attack, ultimately ending on the foot of Barrios who scuffed his shot straight at the goalie.
The second half was even less of an exciting spectacle that thankfully did came to an end after four more yellow cards and a penalty kick that cemented the win for Slovakia. He was bundled to the ground and up stepped Miroslav Stoch to bang it home just off the post.

The only goal of this one-sided match occurred when Enyeama dropped a simple cross, leaving Vyntra with a very easy finish just fourteen minutes in. Before that Greece created a good chance on the counter that Samaras could not finish.
After a long period of little activity Nigeria tested the Greek keeper when Kalu Uche had his own free kick rebound straight back to him and his second effort was well saved. In the second half Vincent Enyeama was busy making up for his mistake by stopping shots from Karagounis and Papasthathopoulos. The Greeks did get another ball past him but Gekas watched his effort ricochet back off the post.

The draw was probably a fair result but it took a late wonder strike from Cameroon's Achille Emana to earn his side a point. Japan had taken an early lead when Hasabe won an aerial confrontation with Alex Song leading to Daisuke Matsui feeding Abe in. His shot was well saved but Matsui had followed up and calmly dispatched the rebound for a ninth minute Japanese lead. Keisuke Honda had a pair of chances late in the half but his first effort was well saved by Souleymanon and the later shot was easily for the keeper.
The best Cameroonian chance in the first half fell to Samuel Eto'o six minutes after they fell behind when he climbed highest for Assou-Ekotto's cross but Kawashima was on his toes to pull off a fine save. In the second half Cameroon looked more dangerous with Emana forcing the Japanese goalie to stop his free kick and Eto'o winning another cross but heading wide.
With twenty minutes to go the game slowed to a crawl with both teams making multiple substitutions and Japan looking to shut down the game and take all three points. So it was out of the blue when Emana first blocked a long feed from the Japanese defense and then performing an audacious lob that caught not only Kawashima out of position, but also the underside of the bar and in.
