Jackie Paterson becomes the highest seed to be knocked out of the competition after a lackluster performance against the native New Yorker. The judges were unable to separate the fighters in round one, but Genaro was able to stake claim to the next three quite comfortably. Paterson took the fifth, but was unable to build any kind of momentum, or any signs of looking dangerous, until the final round.
With things all but wrapped up going into the twelfth, both men started to exchange some brutal shots, and it was Paterson who got the sudden knockdown. Genaro was able to regain his feet, and just about stay on them after another heavy blow, as Paterson left it too late.
