About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

CW 1905/06 (S14), Game 3: victoria vs New South Wales

Victoria 11/11 vs New South Wales 19/13
Melbourne Cricket Ground
23rd-24th, 26th-29th December 1905

Lineups:
Victoria- TS Warne, AH Christian, PA McAlister, WW Armstrong, FJ Laver, JF Horan, EV Carroll, VS Ranford, W Carkeek, FB Collins, JV Saunders

New South Wales- JRM Mackay, JS Redgrave, MA Noble, CW Gregory, EF Waddy, CG Macrtney, H Carter, A Cotter, GL Garnsey, JDA O'Connor, WT Grounds

First Innings
A wonderful wicket for batting helped New South Wales reach an incredible total with wickets to spare before making their declaration, confident in their bowlers to see this out. They started out brightly to frustrate Victoria as the first wicket only came after 263 runs were on the board. Another good partnership (149) for the fifth wicket also went a long way.

NSW 648-6 dec
JS Redgrave 186; CG Macartney 135*; JRM Mackay 126; EF Waddy 93
FJ Laver 3-163

Incredibly, Victoria were almost able to avoid a follow-on as their high partnership of 228 kept New South Wales at bay for some time before they finally got their fourth scalp. The away side put Victoria straight back in, hoping for better luck to give them a easy finish.

NSW 648-6 dec
VIC 508
WW Armstrong 145; FJ Laver 106; EV Carroll 91
A Cotter 5-166; GL Garnsey 4-126

Second Innings
The match continued to shock as Victoria scored perhaps the highest total in Sheffield Shield history to give even the batting prowess of New South Wales something to think about! PA McAlister also made history by becoming the highest single innings scorer in the competitions fourteen year history. Regular partnerships with JF Horan until the end kept the team going.

NSW 648-6 dec
VIC 508 + 684
PA McAlister 239; JF Horan 159*; AH Christian 73; WW Armstrong 66
A Cotter 4-197

An upset was certainly possible here as even New South Wales could struggle to get well past the 500-mark twice in a match, but, as it was, they romped to victory and Victoria's 1192 runs counted for little. More records were made as MA Noble was hot on the heels of PA McAlister for highest score, and the third wicket partnership was easily a new best.

NSW 648-6 dec. + 545-2
VIC 508 + 684
MA Noble 233*; CW Gregory 175*; JRM Mackay 90
FB Collins 1-83

New South Wales wins by eight wickets.

  1. Hi again Chris, I bet the MCG Groundsman was given his papers after preparing this barren wicket. :)
Fwiw, the real life highest fourth run winning score in first class matches is 541/7 by West Zone versus South Zone in 2009-10 at Hyderabad.
