A tight contest started out in unfriendly fashion as first Gonzalez, then Ebihara, were pulled aside by the referee for low blows in the second and third rounds respectively. Another foul by Gonzalez, this time for excessive holding, in the fourth was enough to calm things down a little.
The only knockdown of the bout came in the sixth when, with his first shot of the round, Gonzalez took down Ebihara, taking advantage of his dazed condition up until the bell. Despite this, Ebihara did not look like going down, and even connected with a pair of hard punches late on to look the more threatening.
