About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

Controlled Chaos - The Demolition Derby Game Preview

Controlled Chaos is another game from Joe Bryan, creator of sumo wrestling games Basho Bash and Basho Fury, that is set in the world of demolition derbies. This game will be something unique on my blog because, as far as I am aware, the drivers and events are fictional but I hope it will remain interesting to you all.

UPDATE: The game is now available for FREE ate Joe's own website Sideline Strategy and includes all expansions and drivers.

Controlled Chaos has a Fast Action Card (FAC) system where cards are drawn for each step of a race. The first card drawn reveals who, if anyone, the driver's target is but it could also report that the driver has missed, stalled, become stuck or must refer to a special event in the separate Chaos deck. The next card resolves the incident. Damage may be done to the target and/or attacker or they may just miss a turn due to one of the other aforementioned options.

The race continues with each driver in turn having a turn with each whole turn lasting about a minute of race time. The drivers are rated on Preparation, Body, Engine and Reputation. The Prep rating is used during a race but it is at it's most important at the beginning of a heat to determine any modifiers they may have to their body and engine ratings. These two ratings are key to the game as once either of them reaches zero or lower they must check on their next turn to see whether or not they can continue in the heat. Finally the Rep rating is an in-race only attribute which can modify FAC results.

The drivers also have a style listed as Mad Man, Kamikaze, Picker and Lurker. In addition to these they may have good awareness and be lucky or unlucky which all have an influence over how much damage they give and receive. My game will feature thirty-six drivers per derby for three heats of twelve where the top three of each qualify for the final and the 4-7 drivers enter a twelve man consolation heat where, again, the top three progress into the final. I have alternate drivers for those who are unable to compete in a derby due to financial or health difficulties.

To round off I will quickly touch on the Chaos deck. This pile of cards provides some rare events that can shake up a derby and even have an effect on the whole season. This incidents range from a fire in the engine to disqualification checks and injuries, some so severe the victim may be out for months.

I hope you enjoy this "replay" through it's mammoth thirty-two event North American season. There should be one derby per week that covers three heats, a consolation and of course the final in addition to points tables and updates on the current roster.

Player of the Game Hockey - NHL1967/68 Nov 30th

Thursday 30th November 1967
Detroit blew a 2-0 lead 2:17 into the second period with G Jarrett and Howe (13) scoring for the Wings before three unanswered goals from Carelton (2), Walton (15) and Ellis (9) gave Toronto the lead. G Jarrett (11) stole a point with sixty-one seconds remaining in the game.

Montreal have a three win streak for the second time this season after defeating the North Stars with Duff (7) scoring twice in a rough match. There were two fights either side of P MacDonald's (5) goal in the third period: Vasko took on Harper and Balon vs Ferguson.

The final game of November saw Oakland get a big win in Philadelphia thanks to Hodge's second shutout. Erickson (2) grabbed a pair of goals with powerplay efforts from Ehman (5) and Baun (3) giving the Seals their second win in three games.

Arrows at Gold - London 2012 Olympics, Men's Individual Medals

After the drubbing both men received in their semifinals Ahmed El-Nemr and Xiaxiang Dai matched up well as they fought it out over the bronze medal. Egyptian El-Nemr started the stronger with a perfect opening set and another pair of tens in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Dai was quite consistent though with one shot, an eight in set number two, outside of the gold rings through the first four sets and this consistency started to pay off when his opponent stuttered on the brink of victory.

Dai had pole position in the third set after hitting all gold and El-Nemr starting off with a seven unable to recover and the Chinese athlete was down 4-2. Dai matched his previous score while his opponent could only improve his loose shot to an eight and for the first time he was unable to hit a ten in a set resulting in a decider.

The final set was full of nerves as both men hit a pair of eights to round out their scores and the only difference came down to their first shots: a nine for Dai and a ten for bronze medalist El-Nemr.

The final was full of great shooting as both archers hit nothing but nines and tens but it was over in a flash. Chinese entrant Yu Xing had only dropped two sets on his way to this final while Luis Alvarez had a tougher route with a pair of five setters including a comeback from 0-4 down in the 1/8 stage so the end result was a little surprising to spectators.

The match opened with the Mexican hitting two tens to Xing's one, a feat repeated in the second set for a 4-0 Alvarez lead. The third set would see Alvarez do it once more leaving Yu Xing settling for a silver medal as he hit all nines to close out the Olympic archery tournament.

Player of the Game Hockey - NHL1967/68 Nov 29th

Wednesday 29th November 1967
Minnesota are unbeaten in three games after taking a point off of the mighty Bruins who, after their impressive run, have just three wins in their last seven games. Sather (2) was on hand during a powerplay to tie it up after the North Stars' Connolly (10) gave them the 3rd period lead and Parise (2) had a mutli point game.

The Flyers have won six of seven thanks to goals from Kennedy (5) and the game winner from W Hicks (3) sending the Chicago Blackhawks to a third straight loss with a single win in their last ten, and Detroit roll over the New York Rangers to end a three game losing streak . T Hampson (1) opened his account with the game winner while Delvecchio (10) and Howe (12) also get points.

Goals from Hicke (10) and Ehman (4) were not enough to stop Oakland losing it Pittsburgh as the Penguins dictated the play after a fight between K Douglas and Bathgate 4:14 into the second period giving the home side their first win in five games, their fourth in seventeen.

Sabourin (10) is the first Blues player to score double figures as he and teammates B McCreary (8) and Melnyk (6) help to give St Louis their fourth win in six. The LA Kings have lost four of their last six and had to send out Martin to replace Hall in goal after the second period with the game tied 1-1, and Worsley earns his second shutout of the year as Cournoyer (7) and H Richard (5) condemn the Maple Leafs to another loss.

Arrows at Gold - London 2012 Olympics, Men's Individual Semifinal

Yu Xing booked his place in the Olympic final with a perfect third set to defeat El-Nemr in straight sets. It will not be an all Chinese final as Luis Alvarez condemned Xiaoxiang Dai to battle it out with the Egyptian for a Bronze medal; this result was also a straight sets victory but incredibly Alvarez only missed the bullseye once on his penultimate shot.

Sunday 26th November 1967
The Detroit Red Wings lose three in a row for the second time this year as they meet a Boston side or have one defeat in their last thirteen games with Williams (10) helping the Bruins go from 0-1 down to 5-1 up. Minnesota move up to second place in the West thanks to back-to-back wins for the third time, Goldsworthy (7) scored a hat trick all assisted by Boudrias while Chicago are now bottom of the East with one win in their last nine and a five game losing skid.

Giacomin earns his second shutout of the season as New York win their second in three games after going 0-3-3. Neilson (4) scored the game winner on a man advantage and Ratelle (7) put the game to bed with an empty netter to push St Louis down to third in the West. Finally Philadelphia win their fifth game in the last six with goals from Hannigan (3), Gauthier (1) with the game winner and two from Kennedy (3). The Kings have one victory in five, B Smith (7) the only LA goalscorer.

Player of the Game Hockey - NHL1967/68, Nov 25th

Saturday 25th November 1967
Mohns (4) opened up the scoring at 4:06 but it's not enough to stop Chicago going winless in four straight as McMahon (4) first tied up the game and then won it with 1:16 left to play, Marcetta (1) adding an empty netter twenty-three seconds later, to give Minnesota their first win after an 0-2-5 run.

Someone finally stops Boston, their first defeat in thirteen games, even after the Bruins took a 2-0 lead through Hodge (12) and Esposito (11). Montreal roared back with a hat trick from Lamaire (8) including his third game winner of the year moving the Canadians up from 6th to 4th in the East.

Fonetyne's (4) powerplay goal at 17:52 in the third period robbed Oakland of the shutout but the Seals take their first win in seven against Pittsburgh with two goals from B Harris (5) along with tallies from R Harris (1) and the game winner from T Hampson (2); Ehman and Burns grabbed a pair of assists.

The other team from Pennsylvania were shutout, Hall earning the first ever for St Louis to give them a sixth victory in their last nine outings, tying on points with Philadelphia's and ending their win streak at four. St Marseille's (6) opener at 15:35 in the first was also the game winner with W Rivers (1) and B McCreary (7) also on the scoresheet.

Detroit suffer back-to-back losses after their 5-0-1 run as only Henderson (3) was able to score against the Maple Leafs who enjoy back-to-back wins after going 0-5-2. Keon (4) scored twice including the game winner and Walton (14) had a two point night.

Arrows at Gold - London 2012 Olympics, Men's Individual 1/8 Elimination Round

This round featured a wealth of exciting archery with four of them needing a shoot-off to seperate the competitors. China have two athletes in the quarterfinals with Yu Xing and Xiaoxiang Dai defeating Brit Larry Godfrey and American Brady Ellison respectively in four sets. The second remaining British archer, Simon Terry, was also eliminated as Indian Tarundeep Rai swept past him in straight sets.

Markiyan Ivashko, the Ukrainian who has impressed with his two straight sets victories with nine tens including a score of thirty, met his match in the form of Egypt's Ahmed El-Nemr but he came back from a 0-4 scoreline to force the shoot-off where he lost 10 to 7. El-Nemr will face off against Taipei's Cheng-Pang Wang after he emerged victorious from his match with Haziq Kamaruddin, Wang and the Malaysian going back and forth throughout before the entrant from Taipei edged it by less than an inch.

Luis Alvarez and Mauro Nespoli will compete in an all-Mexican quarterfinal as they both took shoot-off wins, with the former coming back from 0-4 down and the latter tying three straight sets against Frenchman Gael Prevost.
