POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 2 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, vehicle, elapsed time, and top speed:
Tony Pedragon drove a near perfect run to take over the #1 seed with two rounds of qualifying still to go.
Ron Capps ,
John Force, and
Bob Gilbertson moved right up the order to round out the top five behind
Bob Tasca III.
Jeff Arend, Jack Beckman, and
Gary Densham are pushed out of the top sixteen thanks to improved times from
Justin Schriefer, Mike Neff and
Del Worsham with
Neff doing well to counter some engine misfires at the tail end of his run.
On the wrong side of the round's news,
Brian Thiel moves down to 14th due a catastrophic engine failure on the start line and
Terry Haddock's chute deployed prior to crossing the finish line. Engine problems continued for
Mike Smith as his gave out for the second day running, while wheel spin made
Jim Head, Leif Helander, Cruz Pedragon, Daniel Wilkerson, and
Grant Downing have to shut it down.
