POMONA, Calif. - Notes from round 3 qualifying in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 49th annual Kragen O'Reilly NHRA Winternationals listing lane, driver name, vehicle, elapsed time, and top speed:
Jeff Arend returns to the top sixteen with the fastest time of the third round, taking over the fifth spot from
Bob Gilbertson.
Brien Thiel also makes good progress, moving up six spots to a safer eighth.
Mike Neff and
Justin Schriefer are the unlucky drivers who drop out of contention with one round to go.
The mechanics for
Mike Smith's car continue to struggle with the engine as it gave out for the third time in qualifying. Major problems also haunted
Andy Kelley, Terry Haddock, Jerry Toliver, Justing Schriefer, and
Gary Densham, with the latter failing to get off the starting line.
