About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 6: South Australia vs Victoria

South Australia 9/11 vs Victoria 10/13
Adelaide Oval
27th February, 1st-3rd March 1903

Lineups:
South Australia- FT Hack, JC Reedman, C Hill, G Giffen, DRA Gehrs, N Claxton, CB Jennings, A Jarvis, HP Kirkwood, PM Newland, JPF Travers

Victoria- H Graham, PA McAlister, JH Stuckey, WW Armstrong, M Ellis, FJ Laver, EE Bean, BJ Tuckwell, JE Monfries, FB Collins, JV Saunders

First Innings
Upon inspecting the pitch and seeing tough going for batsmen throughout the match, South Australia elected to put Victoria in at the crease first. Three wickets at both the 55 and 127 run mark showed this to be a good choice, but Victoria's FB Collins doggedly held on to pass 200.

VIC 222
FB Collins 53*
G Giffen 4-63; JPF Travers 3-65

Despite losing a few players to ducks, South Australia took their good start and rolled with it. The tenth man here also reached his half-century without falling.

VIC 222
SA 317
FT Hack 81; PM Newland 57*
FB Collins 4-57; FJ Laver 3-54

Second Innings
More trouble for the away side as all confidence was drained from them by more impressive South Australian bowling. But, on a troublesome pitch, anything could happen.

VIC 222 + 183
SA 317
H Graham 63; FJ Laver 54
JPF Travers 4-51; G Giffen 3-63

The wickets just wouldn't come for Victoria and they had to live with finishing last on the year with no wins.

VIC 222 + 183
SA 317 + 89-3
JC Reedman 48*
FJ Laver 2-11

South Australia wins by seven wickets

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 5: New South Wales vs Victoria

New South Wales 12/14 vs Victoria 10/13
Sydney Cricket Ground
24th, 26th-29th January 1903

Lineups:
New South Wales- RA Duff, VT Trumper, CW Gregory, RN Hickson, MA Noble, ACK Mackenzie, AJY Hopkins, LW Pye, JJ Kelly, WP Howell, A McBeath

Victoria- W Bruce, PA McAlister, H Graham, WW Armstrong, FJ Laver, DF Noonan, D Mailer, M Ellis, TJ Hastings, FB Collins, JV Saunders

First Innings
In the knowledge that they had to win the final two games to have a chance of winning the Shield, Victoria got off on the right foot with an opening partnership of 154. Sadly the rest of the team combined for little more than that score themselves, and would have to rely on the bowlers to keep up the pressure, but New South Wales won't feel too hard done by yet as the pitch remains in the favour of the batsman.

VIC 329
W Bruce 115; PA McAlister 80
LW Pye 5-70

The season was back on again as Victoria were able to prevent New South Wales from reaching the 300-mark with solid bowling to give them the upper hand heading into the second innings.

VIC 329
NSW 281
CW Gregory 70; VT Trumper 61
FJ Laver 3-66; FB Collins 3-76; JV Saunders 3-68

Second Innings
The wheels start to come off a little for Victoria, but they knew that more of the same from their bowlers would see them home. But is the pressure getting too much?

VIC 329 + 244
NSW 281
D Mailer 73
A McBeath 4-67; WP Howell 3-62

It may have been that pressure, or perhaps the New South Wales team is too used to winning the title now, but the home side walk away with their fourth title in as many years, and their sixth in the tournaments history. It wasn't all plain sailing when Victoria had a couple of periods where they were able to take some wickets in quick succession, but New South Wales held on.

VIC 329 + 244
NSW 281 + 293-7
VT Trumper 103; CW Gregory 54
JV Saunders 3-82

New South Wales wins by three wickets and are the 1902/03 Sheffield Shield champions!

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 4: New South Wales vs South Australia

New South Wales 12/14 vs South Australia 9/11
Sydney Cricket Ground
9th-10th, 12th-13th January 1903

Lineups:
New South Wales- VT Trumper, RA Duff, AJY Hopkins, MA Noble, ACK Mackenzie, RN Hickson, CW Gregory, LW Pye, JJ Kelly, WP Howell, A McBeath

South Australia- JC Reedman, FT Hack, C Hill, HP Kirkwood, N Claxton, DRA Gehrs, E Jones, PM Newland, CB Jennings, RW Waters, JPF Travers

First Innings
New South Wales took another step towards their fourth straight title as they fought off both the South Australian bowling attack, and the tricky pitch, to reach another 470+ total.

NSW 478
CW Gregory 91; RA Duff 85; RN Hickson 68; LW Pye 56; AJY Hopkins 51
E Jones 4-110; JPF Travers 3-98

The highlight of South Australia's reply was a fourth wicket partnership of 79 as they were made to follow on.

NSW 478
SA 219
HP Kirkwood 49
LW Pye 4-39; WP Howell 4-73

Second Innings
Some lazy fielding, and more than a few lucky escapes, saw South Australia squeak past the total needed to put New South Wales into bat again. Some pride saved perhaps, but that is all.

NSW 478
SA 219 + 260
N Claxton 61
WP Howell 3-45

Both VT Trumper and RA Duff did not need to move their bats as they were gifted the pair of runs needed on extras. This result leaves Victoria needing to win their final two games, including the next match in Sydney, and by good scores, to take the Sheffield Shield from New South Wales.

NSW 478 + 2-0
SA 219 + 260

New South Wales wins by ten wickets

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 3: Victoria vs South Australia

Victoria 10/13 vs South Australia 9/11
Melbourne Cricket Ground
1st-3rd, 5th-6th January 1903

Lineups:
Victoria- H Graham, PA McAlister, WW Armstrong, JH Stuckey, D Mailer, DF Noonan, FJ Laver, TS Warne, M Ellis, FB Collins, TJ Hastings

South Australia- FT Hack, JC Reedman, C Hill, HP Kirkwood, N Claxton, DRA Gehrs, PM Newland, RW Waters, WA Hewer, E Jones, JPF Travers

First Innings
South Australia failed to get into much of a rhythm, and it was left to the 9th man before anyone reached forty runs let alone a half-century.

SA 291
WA Hewer 56*
FB Collins 4-87

It was a similar story for Victoria, but with half the order leaving the crease with six or less runs. They would be disappointed that they fell almost fifty runs behind.

SA 291
VIC 248
JH Stuckey 71
E Jones 4-63; HP Kirkwood 3-16

Second Innings
Despite four ducks and another five batsmen only reaching 32 or less, South Australia were well into pole position thanks to a pair of remarkable performances.

SA 291 + 416
VIC 248
N Claxton 152; FT Hack 145
M Ellis 3-89; 3-105

Victoria could only improve on their first innings display by a single run as they fell to their second defeat of the season thanks to more wild inconsistency.

SA 291 + 416
VIC 248 + 249
FJ Laver 59; D Mailer 51
JPF Travers 3-43; E Jones 3-60

South Australia wins by 210 runs.

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 2:Victoria vs New South Wales

Victoria 10/13 vs New South Wales 12/14
Melbourne Cricket Ground
26th, 28th-31st, December 1902

Lineups:
Victoria- H Graham, PA McAlister, TS Warne, JH Stuckey, WW Armstrong, FJ Laver, D Mailer, DF Noonan, TJ Hastings, FB Collins, JV Saunders

New South Wales- RA Duff, VT Trumper, MA Noble, ACK Mckenzie, AJY Hopkins, CW Gregory, LW Pye, N Ebsworth, JJ Kelly, WP Howell, A McBeath

First Innings
Victoria had to rely on a pair of good performances to take them on to a good score, while no-one had obviously told New South Wales that the pitch was favourable to the batsmen as the visitors often looked dangerous..

VIC 366
TS Warne 109; PA McAlister 77
A McBeath 5-79; WP Howell 3-111

It was the second and third batsmen again who took control, but a terrific seventh wicket partnership put New South Wales into pole position.

VIC 366
NSW 486
MA Noble 117; LW Pye 93; N Ebsworth 91; VT Trumper 77
JV Saunders 4-110; WW Armstrong 3-106

Second Innings
It was an uphill battle all the way but Victoria did as well as they could to give themselves a fighting chance. Only three batsmen hit over 18 runs as the bowlers found their stride once more.

VIC 366 + 241
NSW 486
FJ Laver 89
MA Noble 4-58; LW Pye 3-38; A McBeath 3-72

An early wicket failed to stop New South Wales winning their second game of the season after needing just 38 overs to reach their total.

Vic 366 + 241
NSW 486 + 122-1
MA Noble 59*; RA Duff 57*
WW Armstrong 1-19

New South Wales wins by nine wickets.

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 1: South Australia vs New South Wales

South Australia 9/11 vs New South Wales 12/14
Adelaide Oval
19th-20th, 22nd-24th December 1902

Lineups:
South Australia- JC Reedman, FT Hack, C Hill, G Giffen, HP Kirkwood, N Claxton, DRA Gehrs, RW Waters, E Jones, JPF Travers, CFW Thamm

New South Wales- RA Duff, VT Trumper, MA Noble, N Ebsworth, WP Howell, JJ Kelly, CW Gregory, A McBeath, AJY Hopkins, ACK Mackenzie, LW Pye

First Innings
New South Wales batted well on a difficult pitch for the bowlers, and set the bar high for South Australia to chase with good scores and consistency through most of the order. Only the 8th, 9th, and 10th men had a hard time of it, combining for just two runs.

NSW 437
CW Gregory 101; VT Trumper 68; JJ Kelly 68; WP Howeel 59
JPF Travers 5-89; E Jones 3-108

In a surprising turn, South Australia also took advantage of the batting-friendly pitch, falling just shy of their opponents score, but lacked any of the consistency that New South Wales had shown with five batsmen registering five runs or less.

NSW 437
SA 413
G Giffen 170; FT Hack 104
VT Trumper 3-31; WP Howell 3-133

Second Innings
New South Wales didn't miss a beat between their innings and soon surpassed their previous score with only four wickets lost, declaring in the process.

NSW 437 + 477-4 dec.
SA 413
N Ebsworth 153*; RA Duff 143; MA Noble 76; WP Howell 64

South Australia started their second innings by losing three wickets with only as many runs on the board. After that, it was just a matter of time as no-one was able to take control and lead the way for any significant length of time.

NSW 437 + 477-4 dec.
SA 413 + 210
G Giffen 49
A McBeath 3-44; LW Pye 3-63; WP Howell 3-67

New South Wales wins by 294 runs

CW A Look Ahead to the 1902/03 (S11) Season

New South Wales 12/14 (last year 11/15)
Another slight shift in New South Wales' talent, but yet again they are favourites for the title. Can they make it four in a row?

South Australia 9/11 (10/8 last season)
South Australia finally look like getting it together in the bowling department, but can their bats perform above their predicted abilities?

Victoria 10/13 (10/13 last year)
Victoria have been able to keep things competitive and should push New South Wales as they look to match South Australia's three titles.
