About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Juryo Playoff

Sunday November 22nd 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

The Juryo has it's fifth tournament winner this year after Tamaryu proved the early tournament predictions correct, defeating Tochitsurugi in a playoff. He joins Daijuyama (Hatsu), Kotetsuyama (Haru), Koboyama (Natsu) and Saisu (Nagoya and Aki).

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Juryo Day Fifteen

Sunday November 22nd 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

The action started early in the Juryo when Tengozan defeated Daigo leaving them both tied with the leaders whose matches were up next. Tochitsurugi won against Tagaryu, his eighth defeat in ten days, denying Toryu and Hakuryuyama their chance to catch up but they would go on to win with the latter's match giving Shinko more final day heartbreak this season.

Tamaryu would force a playoff by winning against Wakanofuji and Kurosegawa's result may not have altered the title picture but he lost to Wakajishi in any case.

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Juryo Day Fourteen

Saturday November 21st 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

The Juryo will have it's own drama on the final day with no less than eight men able to win the tournament tomorrow. Tamaryu was again surprised by an opponent he was unable to put away, and Tochitsurugi has his win streak cut down at six by slight underdog Kinoarashi who has five wins in a row himself. Daigo has won four of his last five to match them on a 10-4 record with Tengozan defeating Tagaryu, Shinko and Hakuryuyama knocking off Makuuchi's Aobayama and Kotochitose, and Toryu beating Kurosegawa to put those winners and Kurosegawa on 9-5.

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Juryo Day Thirteen

Friday November 20th 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

Oko, who had lost six of his previous seven matches, today gave the Kyushu title race a shake up by pulling off an unlikely win over Tamaryu who is now tied at 10-3 with Tochitsurugi. Daigo is back on track and one win behind them despite a 3-3 record over the past six days and Shinko ends the rot with a win over Diahi in the Makuuchi. Kurosegawa also defeated an opponent in the higher division (Hachiya) and he is still in the running, but Hakuryuyama and Tengozan have fallen by the wayside with three and two consecutive defeats respectively.

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Makuuchi Day Thirteen

Friday November 20th 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

There were several close contests resulting in upsets today with Iwanami edging out Oshio, and Aobajo winning his fourth in a row by taking care of Tochihikari. Both matches paled in comparison to the match between Ozutsu and Sadanoumi who both refused to yield for several minutes before a victor could be determined. The big story of the day though is that we have a three-way tie at the top heading into the penultimate day of the season. Kurama became the first man of the fortnight to defeat Takamiyama, and both Chiyonofuji and Kotokaze won against tough opposition in Asashio and Takanosato.

It's all going wrong for Shinko after losing for a third day in a row, Oyutaka ending a five day losing streak with this result, and Tamaryu reaches ten wins with a sixth in as many days by pushing Tengozan down to an 8-4 record. Tochitsurugi is alone in second place with victory over Wakanofuji, while Hakuryuyama loses back to back contests for the first time in the Kyushu to match Tengozan and Daigo on 8-4.

Wednesday November 18th 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

With four days to go Takamiyama is the surprise leader in the Makuuchi with an unbeaten record. Chiyonofuji now has a blot on his copybook in the Kyushu thanks to a defeat at the hands of Tochiakagi; Kotokaze is also on 10-1 with a sixth straight win, Tochihikari his latest scalp. Koboyama is another surprising name at the business end of the standings, winning his ninth match of the basho, but with a 3-2 record in the past five days. And finally, despite his recent form Kurama went into today as a strong favourite but he lost to Aobajo in an unexpected result.

Basho Fury - 1981 Kyushu, Juryo Day Eight

Sunday November 15th 1981
Fukuoka, Fukuoka International

Shishiho has not had a great tournament with only win so far (vs Fukuzono, Day Four) but today he cemented one memory in everyone's mind. He may have lost to Kurosegawa but the quality of the match was equal to any before it.

Shinko takes a fifth consecutive victory, sweeping aside Oko today, and Daigo dropped his second result in four days when Fukuzono had the better of him. The leader may have missed out on the final day of bashos on more than one occassion this year but that experience has taught him that he must keep it up and stay clear of the chasing pack.Tengozan won his third straight match, Tamaryu looks back on form after his two day skid, and Hakuryuyama has won five matches in six days to make a strong group of contenders.
