Three unanswered goals late in the third period brought Detroit back from a 3-5 hole to win in Boston, giving the Red Wings their fifth victory in six games as Crozier faces sixty-two shots to go 12-3-1 on the year. Two goals from Sather (6) added to Shack's (10) earlier goal to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead first period lead with Esposito (22) and Green (6) adding one each in the other frames. Detroit found momentum when Bergman (13), who scored their first period goal, dropped the gloves against Green with the score 4-2 in favour of the B's and after scoring from Unger (3), who also had a pair of helpers, and the first of two goals from MacGregor (14) there came tallies from D Roberts (6) and P Mahovlich (14); the last three goals coming from between 14:10 and 16:53 of the final period.
The Blackhawks stay five points back of the final playoff berth in the East with victory over the Kings with Los Angeles, who have just two wins in ten, opening the scoring on the powerplay through White (6). A fight between the Kings' Amadio and Chicago's Marotte nine minutes into the second period changed the complexion of the game where a string of three goals, Mikita (29) unassisted, Mohns (17) and R Hull (24), combined with some big saves from D Dryden, gave the hosts their third win in five.
Oakland led 2-1 going into the final period where seven goals were waiting to be scored. Popein (4) and two goals from Ehman (14) had the Seals leading 3-1, while Boudrias (19) with his own pair, P MacDonald (17) and McCord (4) turned the game around to give Minnesota a 4-3 advantage. Swarbrick (9) and Brenneman (11) again put Oakland in front but McMahon's (8) game tying goal came at 16:44.
Montreal and New York continue to go the opposite way with the former enjoying their thirteenth win in the last sixteen while the latter is six games without victory. The Rangers came back to tie the game twice in the third period through Hadfield (12) and Goyette, their powerplay efforts cancelling out the Canadiens' goals by Lamaire (15) and Cournoyer (26), that second goal assisted by Vadnais for his first point of the year. Beliveau (13) scoring the difference maker on the man advantage and Provost's (8) empty netter secured the win.
Toronto pick up their eighth win in ten games to go above the Bruins in the standings, limiting the Flyers to two goals from Sutherland (19) and Dornhoefer (16) who becomes the second player this season to pass one-hundred penalty minutes, the first being N Picard of the St Louis Blues. F Mahovlich (19) scored twice on the powerplay, Armstrong (13) and Pappin (9) also getting it done with the man advantage as the Maple Leafs go 4-for-7 to end Philadelphia's three game win streak, and Pulford (8) scored late to guarantee victory.
