About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

CW 1901/02 (S10), Game 5: New South Wales vs Victoria

New South Wales 11/15  vs Victoria 10/13
Sydney Cricket Ground
25th, 27th-30th January 1902

Lineups:
New South Wales- AJY Hopkins, CW Gregory, LOS Poidevin, BW Farquhar, WE Pite, F Deavish-Meares, GRC Clarke, H Carter, A McBeath, A Cotter, A Kermode

Victoria- J Worrall, SA McMichael, PA McAlister, JH Stuckey, FJ Laver, TS Warne, WH McCormack, W Carlton, TJ Hastings, FB Collins, JV Saunders

First Innings
Victoria made the bold move of putting their opponents into bat first, and the troublesome pitch aided them into proving that it was a good decision as no less than seven New South Wales' batsmen scored ten or under, with four of them ducks.

NSW 240
BW Farquhar 88; F Deavish-Meares 76*
FJ Laver 5-62

The pitch was fair and unbiased however and fought against Victoria with equal voracity. Things looked very bleak indeed at just 11-5 with New South Wales running riot, but they managed to avoid an unlikely follow-on.

NSW 240
VIC 160
WH McCormack 56
A Kermode 5-69; A McBeath 4-46

Second Innings
A much more professional New South Wales side batted with much more confidence to leave Victoria in the dust.

NSW 240 + 408-7
VIC 160
AJY Hopkins 204; BW Farquhar 64
FJ Laver 3-115; JV Saunders 3-123

Victoria were against the wall early on again, this time at 19-3, but another partnership from Laver, who missed out on a half-century by a run in the first innings, and McCormack evened the ship for a while, but they were always destined to sink.

NSW 240 + 408-7
VIC 160 + 201
FJ Laver 70; WH McCormack 61*
AJY Hopkins 4-59; GRC Clarke 3-37

New South Wales wins by 287 runs and are the 1901-1902 Sheffield Shield champions!

  1. And at least you didn't have to worry about that missing game from the round-robin (SA vs. VIC).

I hope you are enjoying this game still. Still a long way to go to get to even the fourth state team.

  2. New South Wales walked it really, didn't they? So it all worked out in the end.

I am still having a good time with Cricket World. I think the next team arrives for the 1926-27 season.
