Johnny Bower has a save percentage of .955 after a thirty-three shot shutout silenced his remaining critics, stopping seventeen in the first period and getting some early goal support. George Armstrong scored on the powerplay after the five minute mark and against the run of play the Maple Leafs had a 2-0 lead when Bill Harris popped up to score.
Chicago had multiple scoring chances on a pair of powerplay in the opening period and, after going down 3-0 early in the second to another Armstrong goal, Reggie Fleming immediately looked for another way to change the momentum by fighting Kent Douglas. The game threatened to get scrappy with both teams taking penalties in the middle frame, a period that saw Toronto outshoot their opponents sixteen to six, but a well disciplined third period saw an even finish to the game with only Harris scoring again.
