Detroit, improving to 7-2-1 over the past ten games, led 3-1 and 4-2 but a second fight in as many days for Montreal's Ferguson sparks his team into earning a point. Three unanswered goals from Howe (31), Ullman (16) and Prentice (18) had the Wings ahead by two with Backstrom (14) providing the only goal in the first period for Montreal. Ullman's (18) second then cancelled out Provost's (12) goal to maintain that two goal advantage before Ferguson scrapped with Detroit's Bergman to inspire the Canadiens onwards with tallies from G Tremblay (25), part of his three pointer, and Rousseau (11).
Minnesota take their first win in seven, their fourth in fifteen, against a New York team that has just two victories in their last ten to push them eleven points back of the playoffs. The North Stars jumped out early with goals from an unassisted effort from Cullen (24) before Goldsworthy (14) added a second before the first intermission. Nevin (21) then scored his first of two on the night but there was no more support coming when Marcetta (3) and P MacDonald (18) scored their first game-winning goal and empty netter respectively.
