New South Wales vs Victoria
Sydney Cricket Ground
23rd, 25th-26th January 1915
Lineups:
New South Wales- W Bardsley, AA Mailey, CG Macartney, FM Farrar, TJE Andrews, JM Taylor, HL Collins, AT Ratcliffe, C Kelleway,EA Bull, JP Flynn
Victoria- RL Park, J Ryder, FA Baring, LA Cody, WW Armstrong, TJ Matthews, VJ Souter, AE Brown, EA McDonald, W Carkeek, H Ironmonger
First Innings
New South Wales' gameplan started relatively well as they used the bowling conditions to skittle Victoria for less than 300-runs. It was tough going for the bowlers early on but they managed to clean up quite efficiently once into the second half of the batting order, allowing one double-digit score, a 31 from AE Brown, through the final six batsmen.
VIC 278
LA Cody 88; J Ryder 47
JP Flynn 4-67; TJE Andrews 2-62
New South Wales lost a wicket before the close of play on day one and another two in the first two overs on the second day. A partnership formed between CG Macartney and TJE Andrews but once they left the crease Victoria returned to a brutal display of bowling.
VIC 278
NSW 135
TJE Andrews 53; CG Macartney 36
H Ironmonger 4-30; WW Armstrong 3-48
Second Innings
The pitch had degraded further when the pitch was inspected on the third morning and Victoria were already 28-3. This time a couple of middle-order batsmen held the fort long enough to put up a difficult total for New South Wales to chase before the tail crumbled once again. JP Flynn was instrumental in NSW's success by becoming the eleventh player to claim seven wickets in an innings; joint-fifth with ex-Victoria star JV Saunders in best innings performance.
VIC 278 + 153
NSW 135
TJ Matthews 52; VJ Souter 33
JP Flynn 7-57; AA Mailey 2-42
AA Mailey was the first victim again, but this time he managed to register a run before making his way back indoors. Things settled down nicely for New South Wales and CG Macartney was again a central part of things, helping to put up a partnership of 129. After his dismissal at the hands of H Ironmonger - claiming his second five-wicket innings in his debut season but again falling one shy of a ten-wicket match - the remaining seven outs all fell for a grand total of 42 runs.
VIC 278 + 153
NSW 135 + 214
CG Macartney 76; FM Farrar 64
H Ironmonger 5-60; EA McDonald 3-38
Victoria win by eighty-two runs.
This blog is to share results in my sports replay gaming. All of the games involve pencil, paper, cards and dice; no digital gaming here. Most games are full season replays, but there will also be some fictional competitions thrown in. It's been a while, but I hope that 2017 sees a return of blog activity.

- I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

South Australia- ER Mayne, AG Moyes, DM Steele, PD Rundell, HB Willsmore, CE Pellew, WS Stirling, GC Campbell, AP James, WJ Whitty, AW Wright

NSW 243
C Kelleway 60; TJE Andrews 44
AP James 4-69; WJ Whitty 3-60
ER Mayne was one of a trio of scoreless players along with the bowlers WJ Whitty and AP James, but the rest of the side looked in fine form. WS Stirling 115; PD Rundell 99; AG Moyes 74; DM Steele 53
C Kelleway 3-135; JD Scott 3-126
Second Innings
New South Wales are one defeat away from their first ever winless season in the Sheffield Shield after a crushing loss at home. A brave stand from two in the middle order only held up the inevitable for a while.

AP James 4-66; WJ Whitty 3-70
South Australia win by an innings and eighteen runs.

CW 1914/15 (S23) Game 3: Victoria vs South Australia
Victoria vs South Australia
Melbourne Cricket Ground
1st-2nd, 4th January 1915
Lineups:
Victoria- RL Park, J Ryder, FA Baring, VS Ransford, WW Armstrong, HHG Bracher, TJ Matthews, VJ souter, W Carkeek, WM Allen, H Ironmonger
South Australia- ER Mayne, GC Campbell, DM Steele, AG Moyes, PD Rundell, CE Pellew, HB Willsmore, WS Stirling, AP James, WJ Whitty, AW Wright
First Innings
After AW Wright trapped both openers leg before wicket for just seven runs the momentum swung around with Victoria racing off past 300 through the first day's play with half their wickets remaining. They did not last long after lunch thanks to a limp tail, but the middle order had put in a good performance to frustrate the visitors.
VIC 442
FA Baring 131' WW Armstrong 94; HHG Bracher 59
WJ Whitty 3-127; AP James 2-72
ER Mayne's single run was more than five of his teammates could even manage, but a half-century at least got them into the respectability of a triple-digit score before the final five batsmen slouched out for a single run between them.
VIC 442
SA 143
AG Moyes 50; GC Campbell 38
J Ryder 4-36; H Ironmonger 3-43
Second Innings
Things started on an even worse footing for South Australia when they quickly found themselves 24-5 with DM Steele leaving with his second duck of the match from the third spot on the lineup. Three of the other four ducks from the first innings managed to put up runs on the board, and even had a partnership of over a hundred for the eighth wicket, but overall the Victorian bowlers proved to be unstoppable.
VIC 442
SA 143 + 195
WS Stirling 69; AP James 46
