Despite enjoying a 2-1 lead heading into the second period, with Esposito assisting on both goals from Shack (6), Boston lose out to New York. Gilbert (11) opened up the scoring and also grabbed the game winner, D Marshall (4) and Ratelle (8) help the Rangers to a fourth win in eight games.
Detroit fell behind and came back to tie the game three times through Delvecchio (11), G Jarrett (13) and MacGregor (5) but were unable to keep pace with the Canadians through the whole match. Rousseau (4), Beliveau (4) and H Richard (6) each put Montreal in front before they were pegged back, but the goal from Backstrom (5) was enough to be the game winner. Cournoyer (9) and Provost (2) made sure that the Habs enjoyed a fifth win in six games moving them up to second place in the East.
