With the Boston Bruins not playing today Toronto were able to claim the top spot in the East outright with a win in Chicago, their fifth in a row. M Pronovost (4), Oliver (5) and Conacher (5) all found the net; Mikita's (21) powerplay effort not nearly enough to keep the Blackhawks from a recent record of three victories in sixteen games.
Montreal blew a two goal lead, Cournoyer (11) and H Richard (9) getting them ahead either side of the first intermission, as Bergman (7) and MacGregor (8) pulled the Red Wings level. Ullman (10) scored the difference making goal before Howe (15) sealed the win.
The Blues have one defeat in their last five after sharing the spoils in New York. McKenney (5) scored in the first two periods and Sabourin had three assists to pull the Rangers back from their 4-2 third period lead, leaving them with two victories in the last ten. Goyette (5) had a pair himself for New York while Howell (3) notched up three points.
Pittsburgh lose the latest chapter in the Battle of Pennsylvania and now have one win in five as Philadelphia move back on top in the West with one defeat in seven. Hoekstra (7) and Selby (10) get it done at one end while Favell earns his first shutout at the other.
