B Smith's powerplay goal eleven seconds from time gave the LA Kings a win in Minnesota for their first win in five, just their second victory in seven. Two goals from R Lemieux (6) and Robinson's second shortie of the season matched up against the North Stars' Marcetta (2), Cullen (12) and Connelly (26) as the home side lose a fourth straight game, a sixth defeat in the last seven.
Toronto now have one win in six games, Ellis (13) and Walton (20) scoring for the Leafs, while the Montreal Canadians sit atop the NHL with a third win in a row, five out of the last six. Beliveau (7), Duff (12), Backstrom (10) and Cournoyer (15) getting them there.
Boston endure a third win in four games as the New York Rangers keep rolling with just a single defeet in their last eight matches. Contributions from Shack (7) and a two point game from Esposito (17) were not enough against Ratelle's (14) two goals and an assist including the game winner; he had help from Gilbert (15) and Goyette (10).
St Louis stay with the front runners in the league and extend their unbeaten run to four games with goals from Sabourin (13), W Rivers (2) and an empty netter from Keenan (6). This condemns the Oakland Seals to a ninth defeat in their last eleven games, K Douglas (6) their goalscorer.
