Today featured three Original Six matchups and three games made up of the expansion teams and it starts with Chicago enjoying their fourth win in a row tying them in the East with New York for fifth place. R Hull (18) scored twice as part of his three point game, Stapleton (5) the other Blackhawk goal; Howe (22) scored for Detroit in the second period as the Red Wings lose for just the second time in nine games.
Worsley earns his fifth shutout of the season as Montreal roll over the Rangers to become the first team of the year to hit twenty wins. On the other side Giacomin is the first netminder to concede one-hundred goals (106) in thirty-two appearances on nine-hundred-and-thirty shots. The Canadians took their fourth win in a row, sixth in the last seven, with two goals from Lamaire (12), G Tremblay (21) and Beliveau (9), and Redmond (4) started it all off with a shorthanded effort.
Oakland pick up just their third win in sixteen games, handing the North Stars a fifth consecutive defeat in the process. McMahon's (7) first of the night and Connelly (27) gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead 8:31 into the game before two from R Harris (9) and one from Ehman (8) turned the game on it's head. McMahon's second tied it up again but R Harris (4) scored the final goal at 1:"1 of the final period.
Pittsburgh win the latest Battle of Pennsylvania and move above the LA Kings into fourth spot in the West. Kennedy scored the lone Philadelphia goal but the Penguins had all the answers with Andrea (2), Schinkel (6), Ubriaco (4), McDonald (7), and Ingarfield (7) twice for their first back-to-back wins in eleven games.
The second shutout of the day was Hall's second of the season as St Louis are tied with the Flyers for top spot in the West. Their third win in a row and fifth match without defeat came courtesy of an unassisted effort from Sabourin (14) and Schock (4) on the powerplay. Los Angeles have now lost five of their last six with one victory in seven.
All four goals in the final game came in the second period where Boston's Stanfield (14) scored a pair, including the game winner, and Hodge (19) made sure of the win over Toronto, their first win in the last four games. The Leafs had a goal from Ellis (14) unassisted to tie the match at 1-1 but they are now winless in four with a single win in seven games.
