Two goals and an assist from Ullman (12) go a long way to earning a first win in four games for the Red Wings. Boston had scored the only goal in the first period through Bucyk (21) but Detroit came out after the intermission and had the better of the remaining time. G Jarrett (19), Bergman (14) and Prentice (14) also scored with Young assisting on three goals.
Los Angeles showed resilience to win for the first time in nine games and retake the initiative in the fight for fourth place in the West. J Lemieux eanred his first point for the Kings by assisting on Campbell's (6) goal before Joyal (12) made it 2-0 on the powerplay. The St Louis Blues came back to tie it with goals from Sabourin (15) and Keenan (9) but LA once again took over; H Hughes (3) scoring twice on the powerplay and Flett (17) adding an all important fifth goal as St Louis came back again through Melnyk (11) and Crisp (4)
Montreal continue to roll and are 8-1-1 in their last ten outings. A goal from Laperriere (7), assisted by G Tremblay, at 12:01 in the first period was all the Canadians needed to beat out the Philadelphia Flyers, earning Vachon his first shutout of the season.
