Hakuho moves another step closer to victory in the basho as he swept aside Kotooshu to remain unbeaten after almost two weeks. His cause was greatly helped by Homasho who won a long war of attrition with Hokutoriki which puts both men on 11-2 records. All this means that Hakuho needs to be defeated in each of the final two days, while at least one of his closest rivals (Asashoryu, Goeido, Hokutoriki, Homasho) must win out.
Masatsukasa moved away from the basement slightly with his first victory over fellow winless opponent Koryu.
