Boston's second trip to the big apple was a losing effort in the battle of the backups and Milt Schmidt's first game in charge. Bob Perreault suffers a fifth defeat in his fifth appearance this season, and Michael Paille picks up a win in just his second game.
The Bruins outshot the Rangers in both the first and third periods, but only managed a goal in each. John Bucyk (5) in the first and Jerry Toppazzini (3) in the third. These goals merely served as bookends for the match-winning displays from the New York Rangers third line of Vic Hadfield, Jean Ratelle and Ken Schinkel combing for eight points, the latter of which has primarily been working on the blueline.
The Bruins have a quick turn around for revenge as they take the Rangers back home tomorrow as part of a full schedule of games.
