The Canadians unbeaten run reaches eight games, but Chicago has points in all three visits to Montreal (5-1; 3-2; 1-1). A penalty fueled affair but the Blackhawks enjoyed no less than fourteen minutes of powerplay time, yet their high-powered offense was unable to score anything other than Ron Murphy's (8) even-strength goal early in the second period.
The referee had already issued fourteen minutes of penalties, six a side for roughing, between the sides before Andre Provost scored his tenth goal of the season less than five minutes in to the game. Both netminders remained resolute through the remainder of the game; Jacques Plante especially as he saved twenty shots in the final period while Glenn Hall had to stop only sixteen after the first.
