This was a heated, but finely balanced, contest. Laciar and Monaghan went back and forth with the judges struggling to separate them much of the time. Laciar looked dominant in the first round, but strategy decisions from both men kept an even ebb and flow to the match. Both men were warned by the referee for a low blow and holding each, but quelled their over-exuberance to avoid further penalties that would have cost them a result.
With Lacier leading going into the final three rounds, a sudden blow from the boy from Belfast took him to the mat, and he regained his footing looking rather dazed. After that, Monaghan took the fight to his opponent in an attempt to finish him off, but a resilient and ultra-defensive Argentine Laciar somehow held on for a draw.
