The tightest group of the tournament lived up to it's expectation as the lowest seeded fighter in Group F was all over his opponent from the opening round. There were few real power shots that left the crowd wondering if someone would go down, but the Japanese boxer made one count in the tenth and a very dazed Paterson could only hold on for dear life as he was pummeled for the remainder of the round.
There was no need for Ebihara to resort to dirty tricks, especially after cutting Paterson's forehead in the second round, but the referee finally had enough of his antics as early as the fourth round, but that was the only round of the first eight that the judges couldn't give to him. Paterson would take the ninth on his own merit, but the knockdown really put end to any hopes of a sudden comeback. He will have to really step up his game if he is going to go through.
