The fourth seed advanced out of his group without much trouble in either match, but was taken the distance by the man from the Philippines who is now eliminated. Salavarria did not go without a fight however as he busted open Brown on two occasions: forehead in round three, and left eye in the ninth.
It was very nearly two knockouts in two matches for the Lancashireman as he had his man down and very dazed in the fourth round. A brutal flurry of blows ensued , but Salavarria was able to stay upright for the remainder of the match despite a pair of vicious shots in the fifth and seventh rounds.
Brown would would have been forgiven if he was a little off his game after a slip to the mat in the opening round, but he would drop only three rounds (sixth, eighth, tenth) to earn a bye into the quarterfinals.
