This was a pretty easy victory for the seventh seed, but he almost had an early night when the Thai fighter knocked him for six in the second round; following this up with a barrage of shots to take over before the bell. Perez was soon able to shake off any cobwebs, and got in a good shot on his opponent, breaking a rib. Chionoi fought on regardless, but the man from Argentina was able to take an almost clean sweep of the remaining rounds bar the fourth.
A late broken left hand made Chionoi's night even worse, and the task of searching for a knockout that much tougher. Perez earned some harsh words from the referee on a couple of occasions for fouls, but he enjoys a good victory to start his campaign.
