Detroit retake fourth spot from the Maple Leafs after winning their fifth game out of seven, all three on the road, versus Toronto. Most of the action was even-strength but the sides had a pair of powerplays each: Detroit in the first and Toronto in the second with neither side able to take advantage of the extra man.
Norm Ullman (14) grabbed is joint-league leading fifth game winning goal of the season either side of Gordie Howe's (13, 14) two goals and both are second on their team in goals behind Parker MacDonald who assisted on the Howe efforts; Howe is also second in points.
Hank Bassen won his third game with a very solid outing, completely outshining his oppisite number Johnny Bower who let five goals on just twenty-nine shots.
