Henri Richard scored a hat-trick with all the goals coming on the powerplay, including the game-winner in period number two. This overshadowed three-point games for Jean Beliveau (2+1) and Gillies Tremblay (1+2) as they both had the first assist on each others goals. Boston looked like they were making a game of it by coming back from a 3-0 deficit to end the first period down 3-2 thanks to powerplay goals from Dean Prentice and John Bucyk, but Montreal had the better of the second frame to earn to vital points that put them just one back of the Maple Leafs.
